How do you clean different types of carpets? There are many options available, and they can vary significantly depending on the type of carpet you’re dealing with. Our carpet cleaning company specializes in a wide variety of different types of carpets and flooring materials, which means we know how to properly clean your carpets no matter what material they’re made from. To help you out, we’ve compiled this list of the different types of carpets you might have in your home and tips on how to clean them correctly.

Carpet Type #1

Wool Carpet – Wool carpet is a popular choice because it’s soft underfoot, easy to maintain, is resistant to stains, and has natural insulation qualities. Cleaning wool carpet should be performed by a professional carpet cleaner on a regular basis, as wool fibers are more delicate than other types of fibers. Steam cleaning or shampooing is recommended. If you want your wool carpet cleaned professionally on a regular basis give us a call!

Carpet Type #2

Wool Carpet – Wool Carpet comes in a wide variety of styles and can be very luxurious. Like natural fibers such as cotton, wool holds moisture from spills or high humidity so it is prone to getting moldy if it’s not cleaned on a regular basis. Generally you’ll want your wool carpet cleaned at least once a year. To keep your wool carpet looking great, vacuum regularly with an upholstery attachment.

Carpet Type #3

Wool/Natural Fiber. Wool is made up of many long, soft fibers, so it can be difficult to completely clean. However, if you have a wool carpet or rug in good condition, vacuum regularly (especially with a beater bar) and only shampoo occasionally. You can also brush these carpets or rugs regularly to remove dirt. Be aware that frequent vacuuming may wear down your carpet or pull out any pad underneath it; use care when choosing when and how often you will vacuum your wool area rug.

Best Way to Clean Each Carpet Type

There are three main carpet fiber types in use today: nylon, olefin, and polyester. Nylon is more expensive than other fibers but durable; its biggest downside is that it tends to be a magnet for pet hair. Olefin—plastic—is inexpensive, stain-resistant, easy to clean, and generally considered nontoxic; however it’s not ideal for places that receive heavy foot traffic.
